PRIVATE BETA

Books that look ahead, not just back.

BillPilot is real double-entry accounting with a register that shows the future: your planned bills and income sit right above today's line, so you always see where your balance is heading — not just where it's been.

How do I get an account?

What it does

Serious accounting, pleasant to use

Built on GAAP double-entry from the first line of the ledger — the same rules your accountant uses — wrapped in a register anyone who's kept a checkbook already understands.

📅

The day-line register

Planned and scheduled transactions live in the same register as your history, separated by a bright "today" line, with both today's balance and the projected balance always in view.

⚖️

True double entry

Every transaction balances across accounts — enforced on every save. Your books cannot drift out of balance, ever. Split any purchase across categories.

🔁

Scheduled transactions

Rent on the 1st, payroll every other Friday, insurance on the fourth Thursday — real calendar-grade recurrence that feeds your forecast automatically.

🏦

Bank import that thinks

Drop in a CSV or OFX from your bank. BillPilot matches lines to your planned transactions, flags duplicates, and only creates what's genuinely new. Automatic nightly bank feeds are rolling out to beta members soon.

☑️

One-evening reconciles

Enter the statement balance, tick what cleared, and finish when the difference reads exactly zero. Cleared items keep a permanent audit mark.

🎯

Budgets that watch the future

Tag spending with weekly, monthly, or yearly budgets — and see not just what you've spent, but what's already scheduled to hit this period.

🖨️

Print real checks

Standard 3-up check stock, amount written out in words, and printer calibration so every element lands exactly where your stock expects it.

🗄️

The Vault

Attach receipts and documents to any transaction, or store them standalone. Files are kept outside the web space and only reachable through your login.

📊

Reports with tax lines

P&L, balance sheet, and budget-vs-actual — with accounts mappable to IRS form lines, so year-end is a report, not a project. Every report has a forecast mode.

Who it's for

From checkbook to S-corp

Pick a ready-made chart of accounts and start entering today — no history backfill required.

Personal & household

A modern checkbook with budgets and a real forecast. Know on the 5th whether the 25th is going to hurt.

Freelancers & small business

Owner draws, invoicable income categories, deductible expenses, inventory and payroll accounts when you need them.

S-corps & rentals

Officer compensation, shareholder equity, tenant deposits — with expense accounts pre-mapped to the right tax form lines.

Security

Guarded like books should be

Your ledger is the record of your financial life. We treat protecting it as a feature, not a footnote.

🔒 Encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) 🗄️ Database encrypted at rest 💾 Encrypted nightly backups 📱 Two-factor authentication 👁️ Read-only bank connections — BillPilot can never move money 🧹 One-click erase — your data leaves backups within 14 days

The whole policy is one page of plain English: terms, privacy & disclaimers. We never sell or share your data.

FAQ

Fair questions

How do I get an account?

BillPilot is in private beta, so self-service registration is closed. Getting started takes three steps: 1) ask for an invitation using the contact form below (a sentence about how you'd use it helps); 2) we reply by email with your sign-in details; 3) sign in, pick a ready-made chart of accounts — personal, freelancer, small business, S-corp, or rental — and enter today's balances. You'll have a working forecast the same day. We recommend turning on two-factor authentication in member settings as your first stop.

What does "double-entry" mean, and why should I care?

Every transaction records both sides of the story — money leaving checking and arriving at "Groceries." Because both sides must always balance, errors surface immediately instead of hiding for months. It's the standard businesses and accountants have used for centuries; BillPilot just makes it feel like a checkbook.

Do I have to import years of old transactions to start?

No — and we suggest you don't. Enter today's balances as your opening position and move forward. You'll have meaningful reports within a month and a real forecast on day one.

Can I import from my bank?

Yes — CSV, OFX, and QFX statement downloads. Imported lines are matched against what you already have: expected bills get confirmed, duplicates get skipped, and only genuinely new activity is created, always with your review before anything is saved.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The register, budgets, reports, and vault are all phone-friendly, and you can add BillPilot to your home screen where it opens like a native app.

Is my financial data secure?

Yes — in depth. Your connection is encrypted with TLS 1.3, the database itself is encrypted at rest, and nightly backups are encrypted too. Passwords are stored only as modern one-way hashes, and you can protect your sign-in with two-factor authentication (any authenticator app). Every request is checked against your own membership, uploaded documents live outside the public web space, and repeated sign-in attempts are rate-limited. Bank connections, as they roll out, are strictly read-only — BillPilot can never move your money — and your bank credentials go to the connection provider directly, never to us. We operate under a written security policy with a defined incident-response procedure, and we never sell or share your data. The plain-English version is one page: terms & privacy.

Can I really print checks?

Yes — standard 3-up business check stock, with the amount written out in words and a per-printer calibration tool so everything lands on the preprinted lines.

What happens if I want to start over?

One protected action erases your books completely and offers a fresh chart of accounts — your login and settings survive, everything else is truly gone.
